Repair of the Pustý hrad Bridge near Zvolen: the first comprehensive reconstruction of a strategic bridge

The Pustý hrad Bridge near Zvolen is one of the most important transport links on the main route connecting western and eastern Slovakia. Thousands of drivers cross it every day as it carries traffic over a railway line and the rivers Hron and Slatina. After decades of operation, the bridge required a major overhaul. In 2024, we fully reconstructed this over 700-metre-long bridge for Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. (National Motorway Company).

A thorough renewal for decades of reliable service

The bridge received a completely new road surface, repaired and reinforced parapets, and most importantly, a new waterproofing and drainage system that will protect it from degradation for decades to come. We replaced the crash barriers and railings and installed protective measures for the railway line running beneath the bridge. The result is a safer and more comfortable road for everyone who uses the bridge on a daily basis.

Uninterrupted traffic as a priority throughout the reconstruction

We understand that closing such a key bridge would cause major disruptions for the entire region. That is why we planned and carried out the works in a way that kept the bridge open to traffic throughout the entire reconstruction. We divided the works into two phases, always maintaining one operational lane. Thanks to the expertise of our team and meticulous organisation, we completed the entire repair in under six months, on schedule and without complications. The Pustý hrad Bridge is once again fully operational, with a new road surface and completely renewed safety features.
